Newsome's Records

Mint condition vinyl from the 1957 to 1967

My late father Joe Newsome left the Royal Air Force in 1947 after serving during WWII as a radio engineer. During the early 1950s he established a small business in the West Yorkshire town of Heckmondwike selling radios and later televisions. My mum, Joyce, ran the sweet shop next door.

In 1957, he started started selling records and continued to do so for the next ten years until he was made an offer that he thought he couldn't refuse, sold the premises and shut down the business. As a small boy I remember we had a closing down sale and the hundreds of records that remained were boxed up and stored in my parents' house. In the autumn of 2017 my mum moved into a care home and in the process we discovered this treasure trove of vinyl records which had been sitting there undisturbed for over half a century. All were exactly as they were packed away, each one unplayed and in mint condition. After months of painstaking cataloguing and research, we are now proud to offer for sale a selection of these outstanding examples.
